"We visited several boat-builders before selecting Beacon Boats. They said that they did not have a build slot for 18 months, so we thought they must be doing something good as all the others were almost ready to start straight away. On visiting the workshop our initial reaction was favourable, as the styling of the XR&D hull caught our eye. We chose Beacon Boats despite having to wait an extra year to get a build slot before getting our boat built, but it was worth the wait. At least it gave us time to get our plans and ideas in order.
The narrow boat Post Combustion despite following the ‘standard’ Beacon Boats livery in red, black and cream is a variation in many respects with side corridor layout, planned for holidays rather than live-aboard and all windows - what “no ports?”. Construction of N/B Post Combustion followed the schedule with no deviation on time, which was pleasing, as stories abound about boat builders running late, late deliveries of hull, etc. All the issues that arose during the build and afterwards were sorted out speedily and to our satisfaction.
Neil, Ally, and their sub-contractors, did a grand job on N/B Post Combustion, with a lot of attention to detail and good quality workmanship. We are very pleased with the end result and look forward to many years of happy cruising."
Mr & Mrs Webley.
Post Combustion is a 57’ semi-trad style narrowboat, featuring many of our regular
hull design details.
She has a traditional layout, saloon at the front, running back to galley, a corridor
bathroom instead of our usual walk through, and then bedroom, which doubles as a
second day room.
Starting at the saloon, there is a lovely ‘Chilli Penguin’ stove with integral oven,
and the new fully insulated flue, which creates a superb draw. Opposite are assorted
storage units, with a TV on the stove side. A new design dinette is fitted, which offers
a day bed, with mobile side seat come table come storage box. This also makes up
into a double bed if required.
Most windows have blinds or curtains, except the front bulkhead and door windows
which have handmade wood shutter panels.
The galley is a compact ‘U’ shaped galley, with large oven and hob, and extra storage
opposite under the side doors, and a cellar box.
Into the corridor, (where table tops can be stored) and the bulkhead reveals a pull-out
larder unit, and below, a cupboard with waste bin and access to the pump out tank.
Into the bathroom on the starboard side, this holds a glass shower unit, a ceramic
pump out toilet, and vanity with over hung basin. There is also a neat storage
cupboard over the toilet, and 2 extractor fans, 1 12v, 1 solar.
Into the bedroom/day room, there is a huge amount of shelved and hanging wardrobes
as well as drawers, a cross bed which neatly tucks the bedding away into a head unit
by day, and a fold out desk towards the stern. More cupboards aft, including the utility
cupboards, take you to the gentle rise steps out to the semi-trad area.
Outside, there is a Canal Line engine below deck, with Hurricane central heating unit,
a good bank of AGM batteries, and a battery management system. 2 lockers above
deck, both slightly dropped to allow storage for mobility aids and a bicycle. A flat
semi cover is also fitted.
We wish the owners of Post Combustion, many happy years cruising.
